Start Of Autumn Term- Letter To All Parents/ Carers

Posted in: News Archive

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope you are having a good summer break. With less than two weeks left of the holidays we expect you are beginning to think about the start of the new school year for your child. With this in mind please can we remind you about a few things.

1) Uniform

We expect all students to be in full school uniform.  Please can we remind you about the email that was sent out at the end of term regarding uniform this year, especially ‘leggings’ and school trousers. We are particularly paying close attention to ensure that no ‘leggings’ are worn under skirts and no ankle socks over tights. Please can we also remind you of the rule regarding facial jewellery. No nose studs (or other facial jewellery) should be worn.

If in doubt, please refer to the uniform page on our website where there is a link to a presentation which gives very clear information about all aspects of our uniform policy.

2) Equipment

Please remember the importance of students being properly equipped for all lessons.

We would like all students to have a school bag that is big enough to contain the necessary items for each day. This bag should contain the following items  :

  • Longhill student diary (will be given on first day)
  • A pencil case
  • A few pens, preferably black
  • A pencil
  • A pencil sharpener
  • 15 cm ruler
  • An eraser
  • A scientific calculator
  • A pair of compasses
  • A protractor

We will be asking all Mentors to regularly check that their students have these items.

3) Parent Portal

Please can we remind you of the importance of using the ‘Parent Portal’ so you can be up to date with all the information regarding your child’s education. Homework, Timetables, Achievements and Behaviour, Notices, Appointments for Parent events, Progress Reports, Exam timetables, and much more, can all be found on the Parent Portal. If you have any difficulty accessing your child’s portal page or you do not know your password please contact the school and we will be able to get someone to assist you.

Finally, a reminder that we have two Inset days at the start of the next academic year therefore the arrangements will be as follows:

  •  Year 7 only start on Friday 5th September at 8.15
  •  Years 8-11 start on Monday 8th September at 8.15

Thank you for your support with this, we look forward to welcoming all the students back in September.

Yours sincerely

Ms F Barton

Assistant Headteacher
