Spotlight on Success is a new section on our website, which will give you some background on the different departments at Longhill, how well their students performed in their exams and what plans the departments have for the future.  The first of these is:-

Spotlight on the Science Department

LonghiPat Doell Science Department has enjoyed steadily-improving exam results over the last few years, with the 2015 results being the best yet!  75% of students achieved an A* to C grade in Double Science, which was 19% above the national average.  In Additional Science, 14% of students achieved an A or A*, which again was above the national average for both state and private schools.  Triple Science results were the best ever, with over 50% of students achieving an A or A*.

Head of department, Mr Pat Doe, is understandably pleased with these results.  “Longhill students did better in every science exam than the national average.  I put this down to the focus and hard work of our students and our dedicated staff team.  We give very careful consideration to matching the most appropriate staff to each student group and this seems to have paid off.”

Students are offered additional support in the months leading up to their exams, with a total of eight whole-day revision sessions available to them.  “That means eight opportunities to consolidate their learning.” said Mr Doe.  “We encourage effective revision and independent study skills, which we will be focusing on for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 this year.  As you can see, Longhill students respond extremely well to this approach!”

Well done to all Longhill students for their efforts – 97% of you left Longhill with either a GCSE or BTEC qualification in Science!
