Rachel WaiteCould your son or daughter be a budding entrepreneur?  Take a look at our Business Studies Department, who are under the spotlight today.

Business Studies at Longhill has become progressively popular with students as interest in the subject increases, partly due to the rising profile of television programmes such as Dragons’ Den and The Apprentice. Not everyone aspires to be like Lord Sugar, but the essential skills required for a successful career in business are on offer within the GCSE Business Studies course here at Longhill.

Head of the Business Studies Department, Mrs Rachel Waite, said that Longhill students achieved good exam results this year, with 65% gaining A* to C, on a par with the national average. “The subject is going from strength to strength”, she said. “We now have six GCSE classes running. With the overall GCSE comprising 60% controlled assessment and 40% exam result, we are focusing on giving students lots of practice in how to write accurate reports and also in examination techniques.”
“There are exciting times ahead,” she added, “Particularly in 2016-17, when the course will become even bigger and better. The course very much relates to the real business world, covering areas such as marketing, finance and the law. Students undertake a comparative case study of two very different businesses, namely Marks and Spencer and Drusilla’s Park, with a trip to the Park included as part of their studies.”

So, keep an eye out for Longhill’s budding entrepreneurs of the future!
