Business Studies Head Runs for Rainbow

Rachel Waite, Head of Business Studies at Longhill High School, ran the race of her life yesterday, by completing the gruelling London Marathon in just over 5 hours.  Not one to do things by halves, Mrs Waite had never run a marathon before, although she had always wanted to, so London had to be the one!  “Now was the perfect time to get fit,” She told us, ”After having my son Hugo 18 months ago.”

 

Mrs Waite only began her training back in January, with two short runs after school during the week and one long run on Saturday mornings.  “It was ridiculously hard going,” she exclaimed, “Especially as I can’t remember the last time I did any exercise!” Her determination to succeed is unquestionable, particularly as she wasn’t able to do any running at all for the three weeks leading up to the marathon as she had damaged her knees and needed to rest them.

 

Mrs Waite’s lack of experience, together with her damaged knees, makes her achievement all the more remarkable.  She told us, “The first 14 miles were absolute hell, then once I’d managed to numb both my legs with cold water I really enjoyed the second half! An amazing experience!”
