Deans Primary Schools Enjoy Rugby Festival

Posted in: News Archive

Children from the Deans primary schools gathered at Longhill recently for an afternoon festival of rugby.  The children from Woodingdean, Rudyard, Saltdean, Our Lady of Lourdes and St Margaret’s were welcomed to Longhill on a sunny afternoon by our senior sports leaders and Longhill staff.

The festival, which was organised by Longhill PE department’s Nick Rolf and Darren Hambrook who is the Sports Co-ordinator for the Deans Partnership, was sponsored by CBRE through the Rugby Football Union.

Children from years 3, 4 and 5 came together to learn basic rugby skills, which in turn lead to much wider knowledge.  As Nick Rolf explained, “Rugby is an inspiring activity for these children and we hope that it will help such activities to become a lifestyle choice for them.  We believe that it teaches them discipline, respect, enjoyment, sportsmanship and to be a team player.  These are valuable lessons for school and for the world of work too.”

The children certainly seemed to enjoy their afternoon and we look forward to the next Deans primary event.
