An Evening of Dance Enchants Audience at Clarendon Centre

Over 400 parents and friends of local children came to watch An Evening of Dance recently at the Clarendon Centre in Hove.

The evening of dance is organised by the Deans Sports Partnership, under the leadership of Darren Hambrook, with support from Longhill PE staff.  Children from all the local Deans primaries took part in the show and were divided into age groups for their various dances. They were joined also by Longhill High students studying for GCSE dance.

Primary pupils are coached every week by Longhill High students Fay and Hannah from Year 9.  Hannah, who attended Rudyard Kipling Primary School, was a member of the dance club herself during her primary years and explained how this came about.  “Mrs Gardner, who teaches dance at Rudyard, asked me whether I would be interested in helping out with some coaching.  I said that I would and asked my friend Fay if she would like to help too.”

Fay told us, “Mr Rolf has said that our work with the primary pupils will count towards a Rotary Club bronze award which is for effort, commitment, leadership and organisation.  I enjoy doing it, but it would be nice to get a Rotary award.”

The show, featured original design, planning, costumes and choreography and showcased the talent and dedication of all the students and staff involved.
