Year 8 Gets Festive in France

Posted in: Latest News

On Thursday 13th December, the Modern Foreign Languages department took 40 Year 8 students to Lille for a day trip to explore the city and enjoy the Christmas Markets.

Despite a very early start, the students (and teachers!) were up and ready to go. They look the ferry – where they discovered that even Starbucks cups are an opportunity to learn new vocabulary! – and had a smooth journey to Lille city centre.

Students took advantage of their free time to get some lunch and explore the old town, purchasing a lot of souvenirs and Christmas presents. They walked together to Lille Cathedral, a beautiful Gothic Revival building which was finally completed in 1999.

As they prepared to go home, they ventured into a French supermarket to pick up supplies for the journey and to practice transactional French at the tills. The journey home was relaxed, as everybody was so tired!

A huge thanks to the staff involved, and to the students who represented Longhill High wonderfully and were a real credit to the school.
