Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award

On the weekend 22nd – 23rd June, 13 Cadets from the CCF completed their final qualifying expedition over the South Downs. The cadets worked extremely hard in glorious but at times uncomfortably warm conditions. They completed a total of 36 miles over the two days camping overnight in the school grounds.

  • Day 1: took them from the school in a loop over to Lewes then back over the downs to the school.
  • Day 2: took them from the school to to Ilford Farm near Southease station near Newhaven (one group walking in the opposite direction).

At times there were a few map reading errors but the groups quickly spotted their errors and managed to correct themselves and get back on track. Although frustrating for them, it is at these moments that they learned the most and get the full benefit from the whole experience.

Most impressive of all was the spirit in which they went about the challenge. The teamwork was of the highest order and executed in the most positive manner with humour and driving positivity throughout despite the blisters, aching legs and backs!

Finally, a big thank you goes to Mr Harmes our DofE co-ordinator, Mr Tester, Miss Tahsin, Mr Ous (and Kirby) for giving up their weekend to assist.
