Dear Parents/ Guardians

As we reach the end of my first half term at Longhill, I wanted to write to thank you all for your warm welcome and for your ongoing support for the school.  It has been great to meet so many of you at the curriculum meetings and through other opportunities both in school and the wider community.  As I have often said on those occasions, you are our greatest asset in supporting your children to be the best they can be, and I am delighted that you have all been so positive about what we are doing and planning for Longhill’s continuing success.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate staff and students on their many successes. We have recently received confirmation that the progress our students made places us in the top third of schools in the country. These excellent results are due to the hard work and commitment of staff as well as students and parents, so thank you all.

Jade Pinkus of Year 9 Pankhurst also deserves a special mention as she becomes the first student this year to reach a platinum award for the number of credits she has received.  To celebrate this, Jade and her parents have been invited to lunch with me, and I look forward to meeting many more of you in this way over the coming months.

Further to request at the parents’ meetings, I am pleased to attach a copy of the homework timetable and instructions about its use.  We will publish coursework deadlines on the school website (www.longhill.org.uk) next week and in the next school newsletter.  We hope this will help you ensure that your child makes best use of their home study time to consolidate their learning.

Finally, I would take this opportunity to wish the Year 11 students every success in their Work experience next week and remind you that Wednesday 17 October is an INSET day, when the school will be closed to all pupils.  This will be used for staff performance management and will enable us to visit the Year 11 students in their work placements.

I wish you all a very enjoyable half-term break.

Best wishes

Mr H Stride
Headteacher
