Letter to Parents from Mr Stride, Headteacher
16 November 2007

Dear Parents

We have just received the complete report from our recent OFSTED inspection and it is with great pleasure that I am able to inform you that it confirms our own judgements about Longhill High School.  The inspection team recognised the excitement that we feel in the school for our future and the journey that we are undertaking that will enable us to be the very best we can.

The inspection found that the school provides an effective and efficient education that meets the needs of our learners.

The students feel strongly that Longhill is a happy school, enjoy their time here; feel that they are listened to and that their needs are taken into account.  I would like to draw your attention to a student response during the inspection, who stated that we have created; ‘ a happy school, with happy teachers and happy students’.  Another student stated; ‘teachers feel better too.  You can tell that by the way that they are smiling’.  This reinforces the ethos within the school which I am confident will allow us to work together with mutual trust and respect and a clear sense of enjoyment.

Longhill High School self evaluates well, knows its strengths and weaknesses, has secure plans in place and has the enthusiasm and motivation within the leadership and staff to drive the school forward.  There is a clear direction which will lead to a continuing improvement and promotion of high quality care and education.

Our achievements and standards are satisfactory, with huge gains made over the last year.  Our present achievement places Longhill High School in the top third of similar schools nationally.

We are proud to be a truly comprehensive school that cares well for all sections of our community.  We have strength in the knowledge that we challenge discrimination and prejudice and that this enables us to create a learning environment within which all can be the best they can.

This is the first stage of a long journey for our school, at this early stage it was very important for us to receive the recognition from OFSTED that we are very much on the right track.

Our parents and students are our most valuable resource and we are confident that by working together we will succeed in ensuring that all of us at Longhill High School will be the very best we can.

Thank you all, staff, students, parents, families and governors for your support during the OFSTED inspection.

Yours sincerely
