Year 10 reports were sent out to parents on Friday 7 December with information about Year 10 mentoring afternoon

December 2007

Dear Parent/Guardians

A Guide to Year 10 Reports – 2007-2008

I have pleasure in enclosing the first report for your son/daughter in Year 10.  Information is provided on students’ attitudes to learning   with respect to classwork, homework and behaviour.  In addition, where the subject is one that will be examined, the teachers have provided information on the grades the student should be aiming for in their GCSEs and/or Btecs and the grades that they are currently working at. There is a key provided on the report which provides more detail about the information that has been included. The table given below outlines the notations used within the report.

Assessment    Grades Used
Attitude to Learning    1 = Positive
2 = Satisfactory
3 = Inconsistent
4 = Negative
U = Unable to Comment
(The criteria used for awarding these grades is detailed on the attached sheet).
Monitoring/Target/Current Performance Grades
    Assessed using GCSE Grades A* - G (X = Absent)
Or Btec grading:         D =  Distinction
                                M = Merit
                                P =  Pass
                                W=  Working towards a pass
                                F =  Fail

Also enclosed you will find an attendance certificate for your son/daughter.  If your child did not attend a code is used to explain this.  Please check that this code has been accurately recorded on your child’s certificate.  If an ‘N’ is recorded it means we have not received a note explaining your child’s absence.  Please will you let us know – in writing – the reason for the absence.

If you have any concerns and would like an opportunity to discuss the report in more detail with the subject teacher(s) concerned, there is a Subject Surgery for Year 10 students on Tuesday 11 December 2007 between 3.00pm and 4.00pm.  Please telephone the school by 12.00pm on Monday 10 December to make an appointment.

Finally, you should also find enclosed details about the forthcoming ‘Mentoring Afternoon’ which is on Friday 14 December 2007.  This will provide an opportunity for you to meet with your son/daughter’s mentor to discuss this report and any issues arising from it.

We hope that you find this information valuable and worthwhile in this very important year for your child.  As a school we believe that better assessment information helps us plan better programmes of learning for the students.  We do evaluate the way we organise our reports and a key part of that evaluation is feedback from parents.  I would therefore welcome any comments which you may wish to make.

Yours sincerely
