Letter sent to all parents of year 8 students about Year 8 mentoring afternoon

Dear Parents/Guardians

Year 8 Mentoring Day – Friday 14 December 2007

I am writing to inform you that following the issue of the Year 8 Progress Reports, there will be a Mentoring Afternoon for Year 8 students on Friday 14 December 2007. 

This will give you the opportunity to meet your child’s Mentor. The Mentor will discuss the report, suggest where improvements need to be made and set appropriate targets.  If there are specific subject concerns or problems, appointments can be made to see subject teachers at the Subject Consultation on Tuesday 11 December 2007 between 3.00pm to 4.00pm. Appointments to see subject teachers can be booked by telephoning the school by 12.00pm on Monday 10 December 2007.

We are certain you will find it is a useful discussion time. Students must attend their appointment with their Mentor even if you are unable to be present.  All Year 8 students must remain at school until after their appointment.

The remaining Year 7 and 9 students will be given a Study afternoon where they will be expected to work at home. Year 11 students will continue with their Year 11 exam timetable as published.  Year 10 students and parents are also being seen on this day and if you have a son/daughter in both year groups you may want to contact each of their Mentors to try to arrange similar times. 

Please complete and return the attached reply slip to your son/daughter’s Mentor and they will write an appointment time in his/her diary.  Appointments start at 12.00pm  and will last for approximately 10/15 minutes. On arrival please come to the back of the Main Hall and you will be directed to your son/daughter’s Mentor.  Ms George, Head of Learning Support, will also be available together with the Heads of House.
