Year 10 History Visit to St Thomas's Hospital |
|
Letter sent to parents of all Year 10 History students. 5 February 2008
Dear Parents
Year 10 GCSE History Visit to St Thomas’s Hospital and GCSE Conference – Medicine through time
The History Department would like to invite your son/daughter to attend two events to support their GCSE studies.
In the morning students will take part in a GCSE History conference. The first part of the conference consists of an exam-busting workshop to help them answer exam questions on Medicine through time. The second session is a piece of drama, “The Doctors Show”. The students will be expected to participate in the conference and to produce academic work. They must remember to bring pens and pencils with them. In the afternoon students will visit the Science Museum where there is a Medicine Through Time exhibition, and the Old Operating Theatre at St Thomas’s Hospital to help them revise surgery for the summer exam.
The visit to London will take place on Friday 7 March 2008. In order to be at the Shaw Theatre for a 10am start students will need to be at Longhill for 7.15am. The coach will leave promptly at 7.30am. Students should be back at Longhill for 6.30pm.
The school is seeking a voluntary contribution of £32 to cover the cost of the visit which includes coach travel, conference and museum fees and work booklets. Unfortunately payment will not be refundable unless there is sufficient time to fill the place as the school has already paid for the tickets in advance.
The department is lucky to have obtained 45 tickets for the conference but places are limited. Please return the proforma and cheque at the bottom of this page to the Cashier’s Office as soon as possible if you would like you son/daughter to attend. Student attitude and behaviour will be considered and students whose behaviour has given reason for concern may not be allowed to go. School uniform must be worn and a packed lunch will be necessary.
Cheques should be made payable to Longhill School Fund and have your son/daughter’s name, mentor group and Year 10 History London visit written on the back.
Yours faithfully
