Final Preparation for Camp

Letter sent to parents of all students going on camp.

June 2008

Dear Parent/Carer

Re: Final Preparations for Year 9 Camp

Your son/daughter should now have been told which camp they will be attending.  The students have been kept with their houses wherever possible to minimise disruption to Year 9 classes.

The dates for the camps are as follows:

Camp 1 -     Mon 7 July – Wed 9 July
Camp 2 -    Wed 9 July – Fri 11 July
Camp 3 -    Mon 14 July – Wed 16 July
Camp 4 -    Wed 16 July – Fri 18 July

This year there will be no need for canoe tests before going on camp.  As we are using trained Blackland Staff Instructors for each canoe session, they only require that students are competent in the water.  All students will still be wearing buoyancy aids.  Therefore would you please sign the attached disclaimer to allow your son/daughter to take part in canoeing activities.

Please also find enclosed a suggested kit list; all safety equipment will be provided by the school. Students must not bring Mp3 players, valuables or mobile phones with them to camp.  Students can be reached via the school number.  Outside of school hours the camp leaders can be contacted (in an emergency only) on 07958 125669.

As stated in our initial letter, in the event of wet weather and the cancellation of an outdoor activity the students may have the opportunity to go swimming or indoor rock climbing.  To cover the cost of hiring an indoor pool and climbing equipment please could you send them with £6.00.  This will only be used in the event of very wet weather.  The students will not need any further money except for buying drinks or ice creams which are available at some of the activity venues.

If students wish to bring their own tents that is fine but it will be their responsibility to ensure that they are returned safely.  Please note that if your son/daughter brings an 8 person tent, 8 people will not be allowed to sleep in it.

Students will need to arrive at Longhill by 9am on the morning of their camp.  On the final day of camp they should be back at Longhill in time to catch their afternoon bus at approximately 2.30pm.

If you have any other enquiries concerning camp please feel free to contact me at the school.

Yours faithfully

Mr J Lampard
Head of PE / Camp Co-ordinator
