Dear Parents/Carers We have almost come to the end of my first year at Longhill High School, a time to reflect and at the same time to look forward.
The most recent event to have the greatest impact was the Year 11 Prom. This year it was held at Stanmer House, a fantastic setting and such a wonderful experience. It was a real privilege to be able to share this evening with our young people and staff and it will stay in my memory as a very special time. We have already booked up the venue for next year, so our Year 10 students should start making plans for the most impressive transport arrangements, the Ice Cream van won this year. Our Year 9 Camp has again been very successful and allowed staff and students to share in a whole range of experiences together, ranging from rock climbing and orienteering to trail finding at night in the dark. Students get a lot out of this time and the bonds they make with staff stays with them to reinforce the positive culture that exists within the school between adults and young people for learning. We have our end of year Celebration of Achievement Evening on 21 July this year and for the first time intend to celebrate with our students and their families at one big event in the sports hall. This month’s achievers are: Jenner Kirsty West - Bronze Kulsoom Zaidi - Bronze Rae Hawkins - Bronze Louise Ford - Silver Connor Hoad - Silver Kane Date - Silver Kara Oswin - Silver Bessie Garton - Silver Ashleigh Baker - Gold Samantha Ford - Gold King Grace MacDonald - Bronze Jessica Peachment - Bronze Lizzy Frape - Bronze Blake White - Bronze Scarlett Royle - Bronze Nicola Phillips - Bronze Connor Day - Bronze Solomon Berrio-Allen - Bronze Kane Copsey - Bronze Oliver Smee - Bronze + Silver Miron Tyrrell - Gold Mandela Gabby Teague - Bronze Ellen Dunkerton - Bronze Georgia Millis - Bronze Max Bush - Bronze Thomas Boyland - Bronze Ben Wilkins - Bronze + Silver Pheobe Cox - Silver Shannon Flavin - Silver Jack Vernon - Silver Sam Smith - Gold Jack Vernon - Gold Lucy Power - Gold Pankhurst Louis Emmanuel - Bronze Scott Saunders - Bronze Nathan Phillips - Bronze Harry Taylor - Bronze Victoria Howell - Silver Harvey Culliney - Silver Emma Ball - Silver Leanne Pinkus - Gold Emily Mockett - Gold Lydia Price - Platinum Spencer Alexandra Bishop - Bronze Sarah Kemp - Bronze James Kedian - Silver Hannah Smith - Gold Jemima Fahy - Gold Zoe Fortune - Gold Nightingale Rhys Potter - Bronze Jade Bennett - Bronze Josh Jones - Bronze Sophie Mitchell - Bronze Lewis Bowles - Bronze Louise Middleton - Bronze Danielle Martin - Bronze Henry Burnett - Bronze Daniel Kazlauskas - Bronze Luke Enticknapp - bronze Robyn Byrne - Bronze Lauren Bonwick - Bronze + Silver Lexx Lucas - Bronze + Silver Megan Richardson - Bronze + Silver Cassandra Dauteuille - Silver Georgia Radford -Silver Michaela Spicer - Silver Chloe Gilbert - Silver Christine Muir - Silver Billy Mogford - Silver Michael Fitchie - Silver Kodi Crooks - Silver Jack Saunders - Silver Matthew Mills - Silver + Gold Jordan Lovell - Silver + Gold Yasmin Griffiths - Silver + Gold Samantha Jackson - Gold Joe Terry - Gold Liam Broadfoot - Gold Holly Reid - Gold Eleanor Ingram - Bronze + Silver + Gold Laura Doherty - Bronze + Silver + Gold Next year we are looking forward to developing our curriculum for the Year 7 students. They will have a very different experience which will focus on learning development-based skills on an Opening Minds model to aid and support the transition from primary school. We are also excited about a new catering provider coming into the school in September, with a major refurbishment of the canteen taking place hopefully at half term. Thanks to all the parents and students who assisted us in the evaluation of the canteen provision. September will see the school working collaboratively with Patcham and Falmer to enable us to deliver the first of the Diplomas, with many further vocational courses coming on-line in the following year. All our students and their families are achievers and I wish to thank all of you for making my first year as a Headteacher at Longhill a very special one, I believe that this is the best job in the world. I know that we will continue to work together to ensure that all our young people are the best they can be. Yours sincerely Haydn Stride Headteacher |
