Letter sent home to all parents regarding correct school uniform. Dear Parent/Carer
Re: School uniform
As we approach the end of the year we have become increasingly concerned at a small – but rising - number of students who are extending the boundaries of our school uniform. Please read below to clarify what the school uniform should be to ensure that your son/daughter is fully prepared in correct uniform at the start of the new year in September.
Trousers Smart, tailored, plain, black school trousers of waist height and ankle length. (No jeans, denims, Chinos, cords, combats, hipsters, skinny fit, recent fashion trend or other casual trouser. No trousers with accessories including leg pockets, zips etc) Skirts Smart, plain black skirt of knee length, no split or tiered skirts Shirts School Polo shirt white for Year’s 7 to 10 and black for Year 11
School jumpers All students must wear the school navy (black if in Year 11) jumper or have it with them in school at all times. Jumpers must be worn in all school assemblies. Shoes All students must wear proper hard soled black shoes. No trainers (regardless of colour), canvas shoes or boots of any description.
Accessories Belts: We are happy for students to wear black belts if they fit within the belt loops of the trousers and are plain.
Jewellery: One small single stud in each ear lobe, one wrist watch. No sleepers of any size and no large studs. Medical bracelets/necklaces are also allowed. Other jewellery will be confiscated and placed in the school safe to be returned at half term. No other visible piercings e.g. nose, lip or eyebrow.
Coats: In cold weather we would expect students to wear a coat. Hooded tops should not replace a school jumper and should not be worn in school.
Caps/hats: Whilst students may wear hats/caps/gloves/scarves to school these should not be worn in the school buildings.
School bags: All students should have a strong school bag big enough to contain school diary, pencil case, books and other equipment needed for school. We expect all students to come prepared with their own writing equipment. Make Up: No excessive make up or hair colour. This will be at the discretion of the staff.
For further clarification please go to the Longhill School website where photographs of acceptable and unacceptable uniform will be posted.
If any student continues to attend school with incorrect uniform/equipment they will be sent home and asked to return in the correct uniform.
We ask you, as parents/carers to please support us on this uniform issue and ensure that your son/daughter is appropriately dressed for school in the correct uniform and that they have the correct equipment with them. We believe firmly that if our students are smartly dressed for school in a uniform consistent with school policy, they will be prepared for work in the classroom.
Yours sincerely
Haydn Stride Headteacher
