Work Experience letter
Letter sent to Parents of Year 10 Students

March 2009

Dear Parent/Guardian

We are hoping to offer your son/daughter the opportunity of a week’s Work Experience from Monday 19 October to Friday 23 October 2009.  Although this seems a long time away, there are a lot of arrangements to make before it can happen.

With this letter I enclose the Parent’s Guide to Work Experience issued by VT Enterprise, the company who oversees all the arrangements for the schools’ Work Experience.  It contains some useful information and I hope you will find it helpful.  There are two forms enclosed, one is the Medical form this needs to be completed by you.  Due to new legislation this enables VT to carry out a risk assessment before the placement can take place for health & safety reasons. The other form is the Longhill School Work Experience Application Form to be completed by your son/daughter.  Lessons are undertaken with the students in PSHE about their choice of placement but I would appreciate it if you could emphasis to your son/daughter the need to think carefully about their choices. The choices made on the application form will stand.  Once your son/daughter’s placement has been confirmed, it cannot be changed because the process of placing a whole year group is complicated and very time consuming.

The application form needs to be completed and returned to Mrs Nash in the Work Experience office by Tuesday 21 April.  A Work Experience Job Board, with various limited placements available, can be viewed in B block corridor 1st Floor.  Obviously it is not possible or appropriate to offer all areas of work but we try to offer as wide a variety as possible.  If you are finding your own placement for your son/daughter the application form still needs to be returned by 21 April.  I need all the details completed as the process for Health and Safety checks are very time consuming.

In the past there have been parents who could offer the school a placement for the week for another student in the year group.  If this is the case, could you please telephone me as I am always keen to gain new places for the students.  I have already been offered placements from local primary schools so please do not approach them.

I hope to allocate most of the placements before the end of the summer term,

If you have any queries or issues you would like to discuss please contact me at the school.

Yours sincerely
