Girls' Uniform letter

Letter sent home to parents regarding Girls' Uniform.

BN/FY

April 2009

Dear Parent/Carer

Girls Uniform

As we approach the end of the Spring term we have become increasingly concerned at a small – but rising - number of students who are extending the boundaries of our school uniform.  In particular girls are arriving at school in skirts that the school considers unsuitable as they are either too short or not plain. We appreciate that girls will try to persuade you that their skirt is accepted at school however we need to reinforce what we have said within our uniform policy.

Skirts should be plain, black and of knee length. Skirts should not be worn with belts unless they are small discrete belts which fit within the loops of the skirt.

‘Knee length’ seems to be a main concern and whilst we do accept skirts just above the knee we do need to make a judgement when the skirt does not fit this description. As Summer approaches more girls will be wearing skirts to school and so we ask you, as parents/carers to please support us on this uniform issue and ensure that your daughter is appropriately dressed for school in the correct uniform. We believe firmly that if our students are smartly dressed for school in a uniform consistent with school policy, they will be prepared for work in the classroom.

If any student continues to attend school with incorrect uniform/equipment they will be sent home and asked to return in the correct uniform

For further clarification please go to the Longhill School website where photographs of acceptable and unacceptable uniform, including skirts, will be posted.

Yours sincerely

Ms F Barton
Assistant Headteacher
