Dear Parents/Carers
It is at this time of year that our thoughts and support goes out to the young people and their families in preparation for the ultimate examinations which start next term. As I write this letter our Year 11 students only have 5 weeks of teaching left.
Your support for our young people at this time makes all the difference. Encouraging, rewarding and creating a regular time and space for them to study and revise in will increase their potential to be the best that they can. SAM training can be accessed through the school web site and is estimated that 10 hours of study can increase a students’ attainment by one full grade equivalent at GSCE. Your encouragement for student engagement within this online revision tool would be a very positive form of support.
Stress can be a problem for you and our young people at this time and ensuring proper sleep, diet and breaks in which to enjoy themselves are equally important. Our students in Year 10 have just had their ICT DiDA results returned and we are delighted at the success rates at GSCE level. Gaining a GSCE at this time is very empowering, especially in IT as it provides skills that are transferrable across all other subjects. This is a strong complement to Longhill’s specialist status and I thank the team of staff within ICT who have delivered this aspect of our learning so successfully. Special mention for success in the ICT DiDA go to: Leah Crawford, Emily Mockett, Rachel Titheradge and Kelly-Ann Luckhurst for gaining a A* passes at GCSE; Lewis Heasman and Laura Atkins for gaining four grades over their target grades; and Sam Jasper, Alex Walters, Eden Millis and Ross Scrivens for gaining three grades over their target grades. The following students attained a remarkable A Grade for DiDA at GCSE: Aimee Atkinson, Daniel Hawkes, Amy Pullen, Lydia Price, George Davis, Matthew Felton, Liam Harris, Hannah Quinn, Elizabeth Canner, Kelly Jones, Sam Berwick, Lucy Catt, Tayla Sturmey, Nicholas Yates, Esther Ali, Inka Cresswell, Calum Brashill, Laura Golding, Fraser Hurley and Faye Tucknott. A further 27 students achieved two grades over their monitoring grades. I congratulate all of our students and their staff and families for this fantastic achievement. Each of these students will receive a Golden Ticket and £10 off their Year 11 Prom ticket.
Thank you for your support in working together to ensure that we are all determined to be the best we can.
Yours sincerely
Haydn Stride Headteacher
