May Letter to Parents
Dear Parents/Carers

We are rushing towards the end of the school year with excitement, mixed also with feelings of trepidation.

The new building plans will be fantastic for the school when completed, but will offer us some challenges in ensuring learning is not impacted upon during the construction stages.  If you haven’t yet had the opportunity, please visit the link on our website and check out the exciting developments. Longhill will celebrate together with our community on ‘Super Saturday’, which takes place on 11 July.  This will be the first time we have planned such a huge event involving the widest possible range from our community and stakeholders.  A programme will be announced shortly but expect representation from our local business community, community groups, students and facilities from both Longhill and our Primary Schools.

Another date for your diary is the Sports Day on 20 July followed by our annual Celebration Evening.  Last year’s Celebration Evening involved 600 people, consisting of students and their families, as well as staff and guests, and I am expecting similar numbers this year.

As our Year 11s leave to prepare for their exams, we wish them all the success they deserve.  The school intends to celebrate their efforts and achievements on 25 November 2009.  At this event we will present the certificates to our students and celebrate with them and their families.  Again, last year this was a fantastic evening and will be the last time this year group come together as one, to recognise the friendships and bonds that have been developed over the previous five years.

So far this year I have had the pleasure of rewarding seven students the highest Platinum Award for their achievements in the school, they are:

Elizabeth Canner - 10KMO
Michaela Warnett - 10JHV
Matthew Felton - 10KSK
Lee Hatchman - 10KSK
Zoe Warnett - 10JHV
Lucy Catt - 10NRO
Faye Tucknott - 10SFI

This is a fantastic achievement and I thank the students and their families for their efforts in allowing them to achieve this, the highest level of our awards.

I look forward to celebrating with you the successes of our young people, their efforts and determination to be the best they can.

Yours sincerely

Haydn Stride
