Dear Parents and Carers
Re: Supporting Young People’s Health Needs
You will be aware that the UK has a high teenage pregnancy rate and that there are concerns about the rates of sexually transmitted infections in young people. You are invited to a meeting on the Thursday 11 February 2010 from 5pm – 8pm to hear about the support and information that is already provided to Longhill students in PSHE and by the School Nurse and Connexions Adviser. This meeting will also be used to consult parents/carers on the proposed development of a Health Drop-in that in addition to providing information and advice on a range of issues such as bullying, healthy eating and drug and alcohol misuse could provide condoms and other sexual health services with the agreement of the whole school community.
The meeting will also provide an opportunity for parents and carers to share and explore how to talk with their children about sex and relationships.
This meeting will be supported by representatives from the local authority who are approaching all Brighton & Hove schools with this opportunity to develop their services in order to further improve the health and wellbeing of all students.
Yours sincerely
Mr Haydn Stride Headteacher
