Dear Parent / Carer
As the Year 7’s are fast approaching the end of their first year at Longhill, we are now considering their transition into Year 8 and their new mentor groups, where they will remain until they leave in Year 11. We would therefore like to give this transition some careful thought and give you an opportunity to respond to us if necessary.
The mentor groups are House based and will consist of a small number of each year group from Year 8 to Year 11 with a total of approximately 20 students thus considerably smaller than the current Year 7 groups. The Mentor will be the main contact for you and the Heads of House will now take over from me taking the key role (after the Mentor) in the general welfare of your son/daughter’s time at school.
We will be moving all the Year 7 students into their new House Mentor groups on Monday 7th June which will give them an opportunity to settle into their new groups before they move into Year 8 in September. You will have an opportunity to meet your child’s mentor on Thursday 17th June at the Year 7 Parents Evening should you wish to make an appointment to see how they have settled in.
I should add that whilst this is an important move for your child in terms of mentoring, their teaching group will remain the same. The mentoring session is only the first 20 minutes of the day. We will endeavour to place all students with a friend of their choice however in some cases this may not be possible and in some cases we may make the decision to separate certain students due to individual circumstances. We are also restricted by House groups and there is no option to change this.
Please complete the slip below and return it to your child’s current mentor no later than Monday 3rd May.
