Dear Parent/carer

Re: South of England Show – Thursday 10 June 2010

The South of England Show is a county show held annually at its own showground in Ardingly, West Sussex. The show was founded in 1967 and is organised by the South of England Agricultural Society. The Society seeks to raise awareness of countryside issues and promote knowledge and understanding of rural communities and to develop an interest in and respect for agriculture and the people who live and work on the land.
The show attracts nearly 80,000 visitors every year and has a central agricultural theme, with livestock including dairy and beef cattle, sheep and pigs, and thousands of animals on display. The show has grown from its agricultural roots to include a large equestrian contingent, including show jumping and heavy horse displays.
It also includes a large number of trade stands as well as a food hall, flower marquee and crafts. The main arena at the showground hosts a variety of displays from all the disciplines on show; including equestrian and livestock  as well as special display items such as motorcycle displays teams.

The show will take place on Thursday 10 June at Ardingly and will give students the opportunity to experience an exciting range of agriculture trades, crafts and skills.

The cost of this trip, including coach and entry fee is £9.00. Places will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis, so reply slips need to be brought back as soon as possible.

The school will make the final decision about students who may present a health and safety concern, either to themselves or others whilst attending this trip. The school must ensure that trips are conducted safely and this may result in students not being given permission to go.

Once their place on the trip has been confirmed, students need to take the money to the Cashier’s Office in a sealed envelope labelled with the student’s name, Mentor Group and “South of England Show”.

In cases of financial difficulties, assisted places will be available on this trip.
Students will be taken there by coach from school and will return at approximately 4pm. Students will need to wear full school uniform, register in the morning as normal and bring a packed lunch. If they wish to bring any spending money, this will be their responsibility.

This is an excellent opportunity and will provide a very interesting learning experience for the students involved. If you wish your son/daughter to take part please sign and tick the permission slip below and return Monday 24 May 2010.

Yours sincerely
