Dear Parent

Re: Free School Meals

I am writing to ensure you are aware of the impact to school of proposed changes to school funding.

If families meet a certain criteria, their children will benefit from free school meals and the school will receive substantial additional funding for each young person.  This may be as much as £1.8K per student under the new pupil premium.  You are entitled to claim for FSM if you are in receipt of one or more of the following:

•    Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

•    Income Support

•    Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

•    Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

•    The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

•    Child Tax Credit, provided you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income that does not exceed £16,190.

Early next year we will start to run a cashless catering system.  Our young people who receive free school meals will have complete anonymity amongst their peer group.  Details of this new system will be made available later this year.

However, we have a deadline for FSM applications for the end of this term. Please return completed application forms to Student Services at school for the attention of Mrs D Fogden. The application may be accessed http://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/downloads/bhcc/cypt/Free_school_meal_application_form_22-11-10.pdf or downloaded as a pdf .

The impact of this new funding initiative is huge and I urge you to consider the very positive support you could give to the school by making an application.

If you need any support or information in addition to that offered through our link, please do not hesitate to call the school on 01273 304086.

Thank you for your continued support and sharing in our determination to be the best we can.

Yours sincerely
